GIS Titles Survey
The State Agency Advisory Group has been investigating job title issues for GIS practitioners. The group conducted a survey of the GIS community in June 2005 as part of an ongoing effort to assess and improve GIS career opportunities in state and local government agencies. The intent of the survey was to collect a baseline of information about the current state of GIS job titles across the state. 119 GIS practitioners responded to the on-line survey. Results indicate that there is a high level of experience and education among GIS practitioners with a wide variety of titles being used, and a perceived need for clearer career paths.
