Final Version: NYS Geographic Information Systems Strategic Plan
The tag line "Cooperative strategies for building and maintaining the state's spatial data infrastructure" was the focus of the statewide Strategic Planning effort. Released in August of 2008, the final version of the plan represents broad stakeholder input and sets the course to ensure that a core set of high quality geospatial data is available to all of New York's GIS stakeholders in the coming years.
The intent of this plan was to evaluate New York's statewide GIS environment, and then to establish strategies that will help encourage intergovernmental cooperation and coordination in maintaining the data layers most commonly needed. The overall aim was to improve GIS data quality, currency, and accessibility through data sharing. Six planning meetings were held across New York State in 2007. This effort was hosted by the NYS GIS Coordination Program led by the NYS Office of Cyber Security (OCS), and funded by a grant from the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC).
