Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO) Database SSURGO is the most detailed level of soil mapping done by the Natural Resources Conservation (NRCS). SSURGO digitizing duplicates the original soil survey maps. This level of mapping is designed for use by landlowners, townships and county natural resource planning and management. The user should be knowledgeable of soils data and their characteristics. Digitizing is done by line segment (vector) format in accordance with NRCS digitizing standards. This data is collected and archived in 7.5 minute quad units, and distributed as coverage for a soil survey area in various file formats. GIS query examples include: available water capacity, soil reaction, salinity, flooding, water tables, bed rock, building site development, and engineering uses.  Soils
