Description: The NYS GIS Association is a growing non-profit organization for New York professionals involved in GIS, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), land information systems (LIS), remote automated mapping and related geospatial technologies. The organization is designed for those involved in the GIS community to exchange knowledge and ideas regarding important topics facing the industry in the coming years. The Association promotes a forum for open discussion regarding the direction of the GIS profession.

Western/Finger Lakes

GIS/SIG - Geographic Information Sharing Special Interest Group

Area served: Nine county Genesee-Finger Lakes Region: Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties

Description: GIS/SIG is the GIS User's Group serving the Rochester - Genesee - Finger Lakes region of NY State.  We're an incorporated non-profit run by a dedicated group of volunteers.  We've been hosting an annual conference since 1991, and we also host several lunch programs and networking events each year.

Description: The Catskill GIS Users Group serves public employees within such agencies as Real Property Tax, Planning, Information Technology and New York City Department of Environmental Protection who are GIS users (beginning to advanced). Other involved agencies include Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, Catskill Watershed Corporation and New York State Department of State. All of these entities work cooperatively in coordinating GIS needs and data sharing to fulfill watershed protection within the New York City Watershed.

Description: The New York City Arc User Group (NYC ARC) is an independent group of ESRI product users. Its purpose is to provide a forum for product discussion, data and script sharing, networking and mini-training. NYC ARC's membership includes GIS professionals from government, non-profit organizations and the private sector.

NYC ARC typically meets several times each year. Meetings consist of presentations by members and demonstrations of new ESRI products. Users of all levels of experience are welcome.

Description: The Long Island Geographic Information Systems Users Group was formed in 1987 to enhance communication and cooperation among GIS professionals on Long Island. LIGIS meetings are held twice annually, in the spring and the fall, and serve professionals interested in GIS and computerized mapping in the context of Long Island. LIGIS is user-oriented and run on a completely volunteer basis by its members; it has neither a formal budget nor a formal mandate from any other organization or branch of government. It is supported by the labor and services donated by members and the organizations that employ them. LIGIS is in the process of scanning and making available old issues of its newsletter, "Coordinates."
